TV channel 5 - Stewart Klein

"Pets! is a real charmer. Compared to Cats this new musical revue is positively global in its subject matter. Pets! considers virtually the entire gamut of petdom, even frogs and fleas. And it doesn't neglect their companions or deep human emotions. Songs have jazzy clarity. Hilarious, rollicking, sensitive and clever. Let's hope this revue can stay."

NY Newsday - Aileen Jacobson

Unique revue offers a pet's eye view of contemporary life. Adorable, amusing, surprisingly sophisticated. Pets! is cute, conscience raising. ...is a non-stop pleasure trip

NY Law Journal - Jeanne Lieberman

"a creative, funny, well performed, expertly choreographed
musical revue. Many of these songs are so genuinely funny that they simply cannot help but produce smiles. A musical about pets is a good idea, no a great idea! Director/choreographer Helen Butleroff takes every moment and stuffs it full of surprising coordinated movement."

This surprising musical is clever, yet user friendly and suits audiences of all ages. As Stewart Klein [channel 5/fox news] said in his review of Pets!-"there is more wit in this musical revue than in all of Andrew Lloyd Webber combined-sparking, glorious, Pets! is a winner-see it!"
Cats, dogs, mice, turtles, iguanas , parakeets and other species are having the times of their lives in this delectable musical revue. The themes range form a dog hungrily eyeing his owner's bagel "There's a Bagel on the Piano " to the hilarious, yet harried Roumanian dog walker in "I Walk Ze Dogs" to the lonely Argentinian iguana pining for his mate in "Night of the Iguana". There is even a rock and roll number called "First Cat" and a celebratory musical piece devoted to smaller animals called "What About Us!". Relationships between pet and person are developed in "Peculiar" in which an high school nerd finds a friend in his pet snake, a boa.[played by a female actress], and in "Franklin" we see that even a small child can rescue an animal- in this case a turtle.
Although this revue is upbeat and fun loving , with lots of lively song and dance, it does have it's poignant and sensitive moments in four musical numbers. In "Dear Max", we see a high school girl singing about how she has to leave her best friend , Max [ her dog] because she is going away to college, and in "If You Can Stay" we deal with the loss of a pet. The proud , stray cat sings a blues number "Don't Worry Bout Me", and we even offer a tribute to animal heroes, using actual case histories of animals that have saved human lives in "All in a Day's Work"[ Barry the Saint Bernard-avalanches, Buddy , the first seeing-eyed dog, Nelson, George Washington's horse and Tauser, a feline champion mouser.]
Pets! allows performers the chance to play both animals and humans, thus giving the actor the ability to see the world sometimes from the animal's perspective. We would hope this would further the proper care and treatment of animals. In the finale there is an option to bring on a live dog and cat.[ stuffed animals can be substituted ] Using an animal from a local humane society in your area is first of all, a humanitarian effort, and secondly a tremendous publicity device for your theater. Pets! was the highlight of many TV news programs, including major networks and a special program on CNN Showbiz Today .
